Hatchbacks are usually fairly small cars with 3 or 5 doors, a reasonably sized boot and a range of engines that will suit all types of user. Smaller engines for those that want a little car to run around in that is economical and larger engines for those who like to drive a little faster and tear up our motorways.

Small family hatchbacks are more common in a city or town centre than most other cars so you’ll undoubtedly find it easier to get in and out of parking spaces as well as getting through the traffic. A good family hatchback should also be able to cope with the occasional motorway and/or long distance journey.

Mazda 3

Mazda have taken the strengths of the original Mazda 3 and added some much needed improvement along with stronger performance, as well as a little bit of style. This resulted in the new Mazda being a real alternative to the popular models that are out such as the Ford Focus and Astra.

The interior is well selected and the equipment levels are excellent across the full range. With the Mazda, you also get a good choice of petrol and diesel engines.
